Mother Jones Chief David Corn ‘Flummoxed’ by Bill O’Reilly’s Non-Answers

David Corn’s explosive article examining Bill O’Reilly‘s tales of reporting in the 1982 war zone of the Falklands War between Argentina and the U.K. has solicited a strong defense from O’Reilly, mostly discrediting Corn without getting into specifics about the Mother Jones bureau chief’s claims.

“I don’t think he’s answered any of the questions,” Corn told TheWrap in an interview Friday. “He insists that he never said that he was in the Falklands when he made several of these statements that we examined … but, it’s exactly what he said.

“We have tape of him saying when he was in a war zone in Argentina he rescued a cameraman while they were being pursued by the army. He said he’s been on the ground in war zones from El Salvador to the Falklands.”

“I’m a little flummoxed; it’s really difficult to figure out how to respond to his response when he says he didn’t say what he wrote in his own words [in his 2001 book, “No Spin Zone”] and what we have videotape of.”

Corn also touched on the media response, suggesting journalists covering the story shouldn’t just take O’Reilly’s defense as gospel: “It’s up to other people covering this to look at his responses and not just take them as stenography but examine whether they have any basis in fact.”

Fox News did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
